Brand Nothing

Daily writing prompt
What brands do you associate with?

Branded peoples
Marketing chieftain

Weak tribe stitched
together with cash

Identity sought
Community needed

Emblem to belong
Express the self

No protection in
this storefront

Smiling strangers
Absent leaders

Same problems
only better dressed

More of Less

Daily writing prompt
What could you do more of?

Invite my desires, needs, wants
Want for less want, and need

Less expectations, pressure
to push sales thinly dressed as

opportunities, social update
Present credit card debt as

admiration. Less imagery of
neighbors illusory lifestyle

brands sell smiling salesmen
struggling to make ends meet

pressured corporate goals
their own lifestyle demands

spill into shopping carts,
crated off to fill domestic shelf

space overwhelmed by more
than we can need or want

Hybrid Theory

Daily writing prompt
What’s your all-time favorite album?

I will share this Hybrid Theory
With You, lost teenage angst
memorized lyrics, Papercuts
inside my brain, Crawling
among Forgotten challenges
Runaway from that place
better By Myself, but not
In the End, that old disk
never Pushing Me Away
With You, I stretched
found A Place for My Head
but never A Cure for the Itch
or issued Points for Authority

Author’s Note: Linkin Park’s Hybrid Theory is the only album I ever memorized, and completely unintentionally as a testament to the lyricism of the team. I can still, after over 20 years rap about the moon with Mike Shinoda, but never scream like Chester. Or riff like Dr. Han. I always enjoyed their music, even after the public was worn out by the Michael Bay, Transformers movies.

I want to thank you for taking the time to read the above piece. This is a new medium for me, and any commentary you may have, I do appreciate. These are all drafts, if I ever take them further, I would expect edits as a part of the natural process.

Revolution

Spuds sprout eyes
A kitchen rebellion

Pickaxe spike buried
The earth split

Tubor bodies split
A tilled grave

Fertile bodies reach
The deers snack

Grasses plot stretched
A garden reclaimed

Gardeners gentle defeat
The earths revolt

I want to thank you for taking the time to read the above piece. This is a new medium for me, and any commentary you may have, I do appreciate. These are all drafts, if I ever take them further, I would expect edits as a part of the natural process.

Quiet

Daily writing prompt
What would your life be like without music?

It’s too quiet
I can hear my
thoughts
unmuffled

Unprimed by
energetic drums
guitar riffs
unclean vocal

The floor settles
humidity maybe
or temperature
changes creak

I want to thank you for taking the time to read the above piece. This is a new medium for me, and any commentary you may have, I do appreciate. These are all drafts, if I ever take them further, I would expect edits as a part of the natural process.

Butterfly

Sterile
Still
My pool of water

Artificial blue
Filtered clear
My pool of water

Jaunty hop
Fluttering delight
Upon my pool of water

Concrete beach
Unnatural heat
Beside my pool of water

Butterfly dances
Silent splashes
Upon my pool of water

Yawning wings
Kaleidoscope dreams
Above my pool of water

I want to thank you for taking the time to read the above piece. This is a new medium for me, and any commentary you may have, I do appreciate. These are all drafts, if I ever take them further, I would expect edits as a part of the natural process.

Celebrate, maybe

Daily writing prompt
How do you celebrate holidays?

Celebrate, maybe excuse
for family to gather against
busy schedules, and
occasional strife set aside

Kids run and play, bounce
through the trampoline
greet in-laws, with a smile
normally too busy with work

I suppose I could be social
but so much to do, cook
clean, prep, serve, tidy
up, I’ll sit when they leave

I want to thank you for taking the time to read the above piece. This is a new medium for me, and any commentary you may have, I do appreciate. These are all drafts, if I ever take them further, I would expect edits as a part of the natural process.
